Lady Luck Smiles on Me

Quite often.

Id like to start off by saying that what you believe in is based off of your opinions, how you grew up, and the people you grew up around. Everyone’s opinion is influence by someone or something else. Often times, you see people who grew up in a closed community and then venture off into the real world for a little dose of culture shock. A good example of this is one of my dear friends who passed away a few years back; when he was a child he grew up in this little nothing town in Alabama where there is one grocery store on the ‘white’ side of town and one grocery store on the ‘black’ side of town, yes, even upon this very day. Well, the ‘white’ community had a very strong belief about being gay: you don’t.

Unfortunately, the problem for my friend is that he was. But it was drilled into his head every day that you should not be gay, therefore, he tried to not be gay. His attempts got him very far in public but when he reached a certain age he opened a very private door. He was very popular in school, dated many girls, even got married and had a kid after he left. As often as I heard people ask, “How does that happen?” I never got tired of his, “Well, when a mommy and daddy have sex…” response.

What he told me is that it just felt like ‘the right thing to do.’ He said it was like there were two parts of him: the one that drove to be like everyone else while the community was watching and the one that had the fake ID to get him into the gay club. He soon found out that if he dressed in drag and went to the gay club it didn’t matter what his fake ID looked like, he would always get in because no one questions a drag queen.

Suffice to say this little town is still the same and I couldn’t be happier he escaped to live his life to the fullest until the day his heart gave up. Rest in peace, my friend.

So, the point of the post is that I feel there really isn’t a particular influence that helped sculpt my opinions. Mostly because I don’t really know what my opinions are. My whole life is nothing but gray, there is no black and white. I could say, “Well, this could be what I believe; I really like the idea of it.” But then I find some pros of the complete opposite and can’t decide which I like more because I know both are right in some way. On top of that I live in such a diverse community filled with tourist and locals who are all of different ethnic groups. It also doesn’t help that I’m so open minded to other belief systems, thoughts and ideas.

One such idea that I can’t put my thumb on is luck. I don’t know if there is such thing as luck or karma or a predetermined destiny, if you will but I know that there is something out there giving me a thumbs up. I was lucky enough to have a good hand of cards given to me at birth and somehow I just keep getting them.

I mean, you don’t lose your phone that has your ID and debit card in it in New Orleans on Bourbon Street and have someone actually give it back to you. That just doesn’t happen.

I don’t want to believe in predetermined destiny. I could understand that there is something in the world that says, “This person will chose this at this particular time and place and it will impact so-and-so as such,” but I would really just like to think that my thoughts and actions are mine and mine alone and not all that predicable. Maybe I need to throw myself for a loop every so often and go to register 5 instead of 1 at Walmart. Waiting in line for a little while longer might do me some good. Then again, maybe it’s expected of me.

But I absolutely love the idea of karma, that my thoughts and actions will determine what my future is like. I get really unsure sometimes because most of my days are full with the phrase, “I’m going to hell,” for my thoughts and actions about other people and that surely can’t be a positive point for my future. So, is my heart really in a good place? Or is karma waiting to come bite me in the rear end for all those negative times? If karma is the real deal I feel like I have stayed under the radar and my time is coming. But maybe I am thinking too much into it and worrying over nothing. Everything will balance out one day I suppose, that I do surely believe

So whether lady luck is blowing on my dice or if I have made the cosmos happy with my positive vibes, I’m not sure.

But I am one lucky son of a bitch (not just because of what happened on Bourbon either). And I couldn’t be more grateful.

Alive

Good bye little piece of paradise. You’re too expensive for me so Im moving to the middle-ish of town where normal poor people live.

Im thankful for the roof over my head and the support of my loved ones though. Things could be so much worse.

I hope everyone had a good christmas and new years! Mine was filled with family passive aggressive fights and drunkenness as usual (in that order). But its the usual and it was a good quiet couple of weeks.

I leave you with this picture and promises of more post soon<3

Nightmare

I am pretty stoked and pleased with this drawing! I believe its one of my better ones 🙂

20131130-132103.jpg

This is Hitsugi from the japanese visual kei band Nightmare. After several attempts at drawing him for the past ~er~ 9 years I think I finally managed it!

Small update

My November Ipsy and Popsugar box reviews are sitting in draft form right now. I have to get on my laptop to surf the web and create links otherwise my poor phone will probably die. But my laptop is just so far away and that is so much effort… Ugh. They are coming though no worries!! In the mean time enjoy some pictures

I made my very own phone case for the first time last night! It was so much fun I’m going to make more. I already have a couple people requesting I make them one (ah!). Really easy to do just go to the jewelry section of your local craft store, buy jewels and charms you like, don’t forget to grab special plastic/ metal craft glue (Ill edit this with what I used when I get home), purchase a clear phone case (got mine on Amazon for $2) and just arrange your charms to your liking and glue! Rhinestones are a great idea to grab for filling spaces too. Im not too sure I like the bows on the side was thinking of pulling them off and rhinestoning it up. What’s your thought on it?

A coworker of mine wanted a tattoo drawn up so Im giving this to her Tuesday. A little nervous even though because I just hate disappointing people! So I hope its what she was thinking of 🙂 If not I guess its back to the drawing board.

20131124-131131.jpg

This is a wip (that I need to fix) of Hitsugi from the visual kei band, Nightmare. You probably think Im weird, but he’s a damn good looking guy, VK or not, in my opinion. Started working on it this saturday but I had to leave my sketch book at work to give coworker the hummingbird picture above. Feeling a little naked and sad without it even though I don’t draw much during the week.

Princess Tofu got spayed Monday! Shes so sad with her cone of shame but somehow still managed to be amazingly photogenic (weird). Shes doing well she keeps licking at her belly but Russell and I have been keeping a good eye on her.

Totally digging my makeup this day I was so pleased with the outcome. So of course I had to share. Tutorial maybe of this one soon?

20131124-132430.jpg

Anyone else a fan of these books? Well, I saw the new movie, Catching Fire, Thursday night and I must say I was not disappointed in the slightest. As a matter of fact Im going to see it at least two more times before it leaves theaters. They fixed a few of the minor flaws from the first movie AND the camera motion. I don’t know about you but I was feeling a little queezy with a chance of on coming migraine from the jerky camera in the first one. I get that they probably thought “it will be like running next to Katniss the whole time!” But really you only succeeded in killing my vision and head. Thanks for the amazing improvement!

40 random topics later and my “small update” is done.

Hope everyone is having an amazing day!
~Cheers

Much like Lemony Snickets

I feel like this drawing went through a series of unfortunate events (╯ˍ╰) but I have made it close enough to my liking.

Which one of my sister-in-laws is apparently getting a tattoo of! I feel completely honored!

Popsugar box and ipsy reviews coming soon my boxes are on the way!

Cheers~

Pictures say a thousand words…

That’s probably one of my favorite says because I love taking pictures and sharing them with people (instagram is my social media weakness…). So, I though for tonight’s post I would share some pictures.

Image

This is my little photogenic princess, Tofu. You may think that is an odd name for a cat until you meet her brother Cheeseburger.

Image

Equally photogenic and accurately named.

Image

This is not him as a kitten, but I’m pretty sure something along these lines happened before he came into my life.

Image

And just for a size comparison here you go. Tofu is a little bigger now (shes only 6 months, Cheeseburger is 6 years) but they still differ in size greatly.

They are my four legged little monsters and I can’t imagine life without them.

Next topic: Food.

Image

I have been going on an epic journey to teach myself how to cook more than Macaroni and Cheese. This asparagus was pretty delicious (I never made it myself before) covered in pepper, a little butter, salt, garlic, parsley and topped with lemon juice it was pretty tasty. Too much lemon juice though, next time it will be better!

Image

This pizza makes me hungry just thinking about it! It was amazing! I bought a pre-made crust (cheating) put some olive oil and garlic salt on the crust then added diced tomatoes, pesto, sundried tomatoes, garlic, feta, fresh grated mozzarella cheese, and topped artichoke hearts. Delicious.

And now: Makeup!

Image

I just really liked my makeup this day. I have a few others I need to get off my instagram to share (if you want to check some of them out you can go to my page and there is a link to the right ;)) Want a tutorial? Yay or nay?

And of course Art~

Image

Ahhhhh so many dots! I have never tried this style of art before it was quite fun though. This one is kind of unfinished I was intending on getting an orange sharpie and doing more but it turned out pretty good in just black as well and I’m slacking on the art.

Image

This was probably the last thing I drew, Halloween related of course. I love Halloween its my favorite holiday and time of year<3 This was just a random doodle.

And last but not least:

Image

Here are some of my coworkers and myself celebrating halloween! We were supposed to be the skeleton crew (pay no attention to the ghost) I made my own shirt though and it was so much fun! Now I have an awesome skull shirt to wear on the daily 😉 The back is cut out to look like a spine, ribs and scapula.

Fun fact of the day: November 8, 1895 X-rays were discovered! Which happens to be tomorrow (or maybe today depending on where you are from and when you are reading this!) So happy x-ray day!!!! Glad it was invented because I absolutely love my job 🙂

And there you have it, a couple thousand words for you. Hope you enoyed<3

October Popsugar must have Box review

I’m extremely late on this but I wanted to review my October Popsugar must have Box! It came in in the beginning of the month so I think I have thoroughly tried out all the products I received in order to give you a nice review 😉 For those of you who do not know Popsugar must have Boxes require a $40 subscription per month but they give you over $100 worth of stuff to try! I have been so satisfied with my first box I have subscribed to another couple of months ;). I have done the same thing for Ipsy but have yet to receive a box from them (my first one should be coming in this month I’ll review it when I get it). Ipsy is the cheaper version but they do essentially the same thing (I think I got a year subscription for $110) Click the links to go to the websites.

Image

Please forgive my cat she made her way into the bottom of my picture (she’s the strange white blur). Ok! To start out with I’ll tell you the products I didn’t/ haven’t/ won’t use:

First, I didn’t eat the rice crispy treat. I can’t eat gelatin though I wish I could because this was the squooshy-est most delicious looking rice crispy treat I have ever seen! It almost made me go against my vegetarian ways just to try it, alas I’m stubborn. Normally $3.95

Second, I have not used the Can’t Cook Book though I intend to! I just haven’t gotten around to it. Maybe if I didn’t spend $40 on a subscription to get this thing I would have been able to buy food and try it 😉 (I kid. When I do pick stuff to make out of it and try it I will let you know.) The book just has simple instructions for nice, quick, but delicious looking meals. I feel like all college students should have this, though the ingredients are a little pricier than ramen noodle. They have a lot of vegetarian options which I LOVE about it! Kindle edition on Amazon is $11.96 Hardback is $12.59. I believe there is an app as well not sure how much it is.

Third, I did not and will not use the gift card to stitch fix. Though I will tell you about it! Stitch Fix is a site that you can put your mailing information in (Im sure you have to give them a credit card number as well) and they send you a box of clothes. You keep what you want and send back what you dont (they provide the shipping and box). The only reason I’m not using it is because I get told on a daily basis I have too many clothes. Also, it’s more incentive for me to spend even more money, which I am trying to avoid (and doing a bad job of it). Gift card for $20

Now to the stuff I do use an love!

First, Jane Tran bobby-pins! I use them every day and they actually hold up my crazy, curly, thick hair! They are made different than normal bobby pins and much longer as well. They are not something that hides in your hair easily, its definitely meant for decorative purposes. But, like I said they work really well so its like killing two birds with one stone. The set that came with my box is about $12. Looking at their website makes me want to buy more though they have so many cute options.

Second, The Wet Brush! Holy crap if you have curly hair: You must own this brush. It’s amazing! The bristles are extremely flexible and made for brushing your hair in the shower. For those of you who don’t know about us curly headed people, we pretty much can’t ever brush our hair unless its wet. Unless we want to look like we are from the 80s. The solution is the wet brush! I never heard of this until it showed up in my box, but I am sure glad it did! Normally $14

Third, Julep Nail Color! This product has been a hot topic as of late I am seeing it everywhere now and I love it so much! It is a really good quality nail polish and stays on really well. I have the problem of chipping my nail polish an hour after I put it on, with this it at least lasted 3-4 days before it chipped! I got the dark red color and a clear top coat. Normally $14 each

Fourth, Bali Bead Bracelet! I have a bad habit of putting on a bracelet and never taking it off including when I’m in the shower, which is exactly what I have done with this bracelet for a whole month and it still looks brand new! No tarnish or color changing of my skin which better not happen because this is a $45 bracelet (holy crap). It’s really cute and simple and goes with almost everything I own (even though it’s pink but I wear a lot of black and everything goes with black ;)).

Last but not least my most used product: NYX Liquid eyeliner and eyeshadow palette! The link is for the eyeshadow palette here’s the liquid eyeliner. I used these almost every single day it comes with colors for a day look and a night look and the liner is absolutely amazing! Goes on so smooth and dark. My favorite part about the brand NYX is that they are vegan and animal cruelty free which most people don’t really care about but it’s a plus in my book! Palette is $7 liner is $5.50

And that’s everything! All together the whole box was full of about $125 worth of product. Not bad for $40. So, if you are a beauty guru and like to spend your money on frivolous stuff to make yourself look good I would say the box is definetly worth it! Look out for my Ipsy and the next Popsugar Box review hopefully that box comes in soon<3
